Review of Kindle 2
Amazon's Kindle 2 is easily the best eBook reader on the market. It has new features like better grayscale rendering, USB charging, longer battery life, and faster page turns.

With an overall redesign of the outside and an even larger library available through Amazon's Whispernet technology, the Kindle 2 is easily the best eBook reader on the market. The Kindle 2 looks better, sleeker and much slimmer than the original Kindle. It's even slimmer than the iPhone. But the improvements go beneath the surface, too. With new features like better grayscale rendering, USB charging, longer battery life, and faster page turns. The Kindle 2 really has become even more convenient and useful. One of the first differences any user will notice on the Kindle 2 is the new navigation interface. Instead of using a scroll wheel, the Kindle 2 has a new 5-way control stick, like a joystick basically, that will move up down left or right. It also has a keyboard included at the bottom of the device with page turn buttons on the sides. While we like the upgrades on the overall look, I would still like to see a touch screen interface included with the Kindle. It would give it a much cleaner look. But having the external keyboard does make it nice because you don't hit the wrong key as often as you would on a virtual keyboard. One of the most noticeable changes is the grayscale levels on the e-ink screen. On the original Kindle the images did not look very clear, but with the Kindle 2's 16-level grayscale rendering the detail is phenomenal. While it doesn't affect the text very much, the images displayed with newspapers and other sources have a lot of depth and detail. Obviously the best feature about the Kindle 2 is still the wireless access to the Kindle Store. With more than 230,000 titles available †most for under 10 dollars †the content and the access is awesome. No other reader even comes close to the ease and portability having this feature on the Kindle 2 gives users. Plus, being able to subscribe to blogs, newspapers and magazines gives users a lot more content options. When you take all this into account and add in Amazon's incredible content library through the Kindle Store, it's impossible to see any other eBook reader out there ranking higher than the Kindle 2. For now, at least, the Kindle 2 truly is the epitome of eBook reader technology.
