Best eBook Readers Buying Guide
Digital books are the future of reading and eBook Readers hold digital copies of all your favorite books. Before you lay down money for an eBook Reader make sure it has all the features you need.
The advent of movable type in 1450 was the most important invention of the last millennium. Books and literacy were brought to the hands of anyone who was willing to read. Over the past 500 years books and publishing have undergone multiple innovations. The latest step in literary evolution is the eBook reader. eBook readers eliminate the need for physical paper books. They accomplish this using e-ink displays. e-ink is different from LCD and LED displays in that it utilizes ultra low power micro-capsules to display words. Sort of like a calculator or a digital watch. E-Ink makes eReaders convenient, light and portable. Plus you can do way more with an eBook reader than you can do with a physical book. When you buy your eBook reader, make sure it has enough space to store all the books, newspapers, magazines and anything else you read. Think about what type of digital files you read on a regular basis. For example the Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook have a native PDF reader. So you can use it to read files you get in your email or other sources. If you read a particular type of electronic file often, be sure that your eReader can help you take these files on the go. Taking your virtual library wherever you go is just the start of eBook readers. Some models have some fantastic features that go beyond casual reading. If you take copious notes or read multiple books at once; you will want a reader that can take notes, save clipping and quotations, as well as highlight passages you want to find again later. The best eBook readers enable you to totally cut out the physical book stores by providing electronic stores right on the device. There are two ways to do this. Some eReaders require you to sync your device to your computer and transfer your content that way, just like you would sync an iPod. This works. But what if you are delayed in an airport and you want a new book to read while you wait? Higher end readers like the Kindle and the Nook both can connect to their stores wirelessly via wi-fi and 3G to give you instant access to thousands of titles. Beyond reading, many ebook readers come loaded with additional features. They can also double as MP3 players and internet browsers. And its not just these readers that can display ebooks. For example the iPad and iPod touch both have eBook reader applications built right in. But they don't use the e-ink technology so reading on the iPad is more like reading a computer screen than a real book. It's going to be a long time off before we say good-bye to actual physical books. But a solid eBook reader will help you lighten the load and take your digital library with you.
